| The Périphériques are a multidisciplinary project and a nomadic platform that explore various relationships and hybridations between artistic intent, space, public, and technologies. Artists are invited to work with renewed contexts that nurture conditions for dynamic and riskful improvisations. To this date, Périphériques has presented six events migrating into various venues and totalling 20 productions of artists involved in the fields of performance, audio art, experimental video, in-situ interventions or spoken word. Périphériques was part of the recent edition of Mutek, Festival for Music, Sound and New Technologies, participating in the live headphone / internet streaming event Le Placard in June 2005. In 2006, Périphériques was included in Le Chantier, a series of experiments in sound organized by art center La Chambre Blanche in Quebec City. The work of Périphériques was also broadcasted on the radio program Le Navire Night. So far the events have produced singular experiences such as an intimate headphone event for listeners gathered in a garden, relating to the neighbourhood through the gaze of a video-surveillance unit, a biosignal and metabolic performance taking place in a claustrophobic and crowded atmosphere, domestic interventions, denatured voice recordings, and sonic explorations of all kinds … Périphériques was founded in 2003 by Alexis Bellavance, Jean-Maxime Dufresne, Virginie Laganière, Mathieu Lévesque and Maude Smith Gagnon. Current members for the organization and programming of events are : Alexis Bellavance, Jean-Maxime Dufresne, Virginie Laganière, Maude Smith Gagnon. |
